Why does a Reddit link open in the browser?
In a mobile browser, Reddit often shows prompts to “continue in the app” that cover the discussion. A thread shared outside Reddit loses some of its readability, and the visitor cannot vote or comment without logging in. A link that opens the app directly on the right thread avoids the detour.
How to do it with Qlynk
- Copy the address of the subreddit, thread or profile from Reddit.
- Paste it into Qlynk. With Pro, you can choose the end of the link.
- Share the short link: on a phone, it opens the Reddit app.
On iPhone, Qlynk sends the original Reddit address: iOS opens the app if it’s installed, with no error message. On Android, the link opens the app, or the web page if the app isn’t installed. On a computer, the page opens as usual.
When is it useful?
- Sharing a thread with a colleague or a client
- Sending people from a website to your community (subreddit)
- Quoting a useful answer in an email
- Putting a QR code to a subreddit on an event poster
Which Reddit links open the app?
| Link type | Example address |
|---|---|
| Community (subreddit) | https://www.reddit.com/r/yourcommunity |
| Thread | https://www.reddit.com/r/yourcommunity/comments/THREAD_ID/title |
| Profile | https://www.reddit.com/user/yourusername |
| Profile (short address) | https://www.reddit.com/u/yourusername |
Paste any of these addresses into Qlynk: the short link you get will open Reddit on phones.
