Why does a Gmail link open in the browser?
A Gmail address points to a message or a label in your own mailbox. Opened from a document or a note, it goes to the browser instead of the app. Qlynk recognizes the format mail.google.com/mail/u/ followed by the account number and a “#”, and prepares it to open in the Gmail app. Do not share this kind of link with other people: only the account owner can read the message.
How to do it with Qlynk
- Open the conversation in Gmail on a computer and copy the browser address.
- Paste it into Qlynk. With Pro, choose the end of the link.
- Use it yourself on your phone: the Gmail app opens on the conversation.
On iPhone, Qlynk sends the original Gmail address: iOS opens the app if it’s installed, with no error message. On Android, the link opens the app, or the web page if the app isn’t installed. On a computer, the page opens as usual.
When is it useful?
- Keeping a link to an important conversation in your own dashboard
- Putting a link to a label in your mailbox in a personal note
- Sharing a thread with a colleague who has access to the same shared mailbox
- Placing a personal QR code to find an email from your phone
Which Gmail links open the app?
| Link type | Example address |
|---|---|
| Conversation or label | https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/abcdef1234567890 |
Paste any of these addresses into Qlynk: the short link you get will open Gmail on phones.
Frequently asked questions
Can a recipient read my email with this link?
No. The link gives no access to the message to anyone else, who would need to be signed in to your account.
Which Gmail addresses are recognized?
Those in the form mail.google.com/mail/u/0/# (the digit is the account number).
Is this a good use of Qlynk?
Mostly for your own shortcuts. Avoid publishing a link to your personal mailbox.
