Why does a Slack link open in the browser?
Slack links contain the workspace name, such as yourworkspace.slack.com. Clicked from an email or a document, they easily open in the browser, which asks you to pick the workspace and sign in again. Qlynk recognizes links to a channel, a message or a profile and prepares them to open straight in the Slack app.
How to do it with Qlynk
- In Slack, copy the link to the channel, message or profile.
- Paste it into Qlynk. With Pro, choose the end of the link.
- Share it: members of the workspace land in the Slack app.
On iPhone, Qlynk sends the original Slack address: iOS opens the app if it’s installed, with no error message. On Android, the link opens the app, or the web page if the app isn’t installed. On a computer, the page opens as usual.
When is it useful?
- Sending a new teammate the link to the welcome channel
- Putting the link to one specific discussion in an email so it is easy to find again
- Printing a QR code that leads to a community channel
- Giving a contractor quick access to a project’s status channel
Which Slack links open the app?
| Link type | Example address |
|---|---|
| Channel or message | https://yourworkspace.slack.com/archives/C0123456789 |
| Profile | https://yourworkspace.slack.com/team/U0123456789 |
Paste any of these addresses into Qlynk: the short link you get will open Slack on phones.
Frequently asked questions
Who can open the link?
Only members of the workspace can see the content. Qlynk does not get around any of Slack’s access rights.
Are invitations to join a workspace recognized?
No. Only addresses from your workspace with /archives/, /team/ or /messages/ are recognized.
Should I put a private Slack link inside a public link?
Think about it first: the short link is public, even though Slack still protects the content.
