Why does a X (Twitter) link open in the browser?
Since Twitter became X, two domains live side by side: twitter.com and x.com. Old twitter.com links are still everywhere, in email signatures, slide decks and printed material. Opened in a mobile browser, both often stop at a sign-in wall before the visitor can follow you or reply. One Qlynk link gives you a stable address you control, so you never have to reprint material if the address changes again.
How to do it with Qlynk
- Copy the address of your profile or post from X.
- Paste it into Qlynk. With Pro, choose the end of the link, such as qlynk.eu/on-x.
- Share the short link: on a phone, it opens the X app.
On iPhone, Qlynk sends the original X (Twitter) address: iOS opens the app if it’s installed, with no error message. On Android, the link opens the app, or the web page if the app isn’t installed. On a computer, the page opens as usual.
When is it useful?
- Adding your X profile to a press kit, slide deck or email signature
- Linking a post or thread from a newsletter or blog article
- Printing a QR code to your account on conference badges
- Replacing old twitter.com links with one address you can update
Which X (Twitter) links open the app?
| Link type | Example address |
|---|---|
| Profile | https://x.com/yourusername |
| Profile (old address) | https://twitter.com/yourusername |
| Post | https://x.com/yourusername/status/POST_ID |
| Mobile version | https://mobile.twitter.com/yourusername |
Paste any of these addresses into Qlynk: the short link you get will open X (Twitter) on phones.
Frequently asked questions
Do old twitter.com links still work?
Yes. Qlynk recognizes both twitter.com and x.com, with or without www.
Is a username longer than 15 characters recognized?
No. Qlynk covers usernames of 1 to 15 characters (letters, numbers and underscores), the usual limit on X.
Can I see how many people clicked through to my X profile?
Yes. Qlynk counts human clicks on each short link and leaves out bots, link previews and duplicates.
